Arrow Point, Catalina Island

Arrow Point is one of the most magical spots on Catalina Island. The cliff shelf drops quickly, to about eighty feet deep just a few kicks from shore. Stripes of giant kelp reach all the way to the surface. On a good day, you can almost see where they connect with the world below.

Jump in, sink down, and you’re in the forest. Swirls and tangles of kelp above block out the light and shroud the path in front of you. Glide through the shadow, and you’re greeted by Giant Sea Bass, horned sharks, and schools of fish. Sometimes they’ll even swim up for a kiss and a chat if it’s been a while.
